Casinos Online List.com - Poker

There are many factors to consider when playing a hand of online poker.  Aside from the obvious, such as being familiar with the rules of the game or using a game specific strategy, there are many other smart poker practices worth considering, although not as obvious as others.  The fact is, that we, as human beings, often overlook the obvious, especially when habits get us in the autopilot mode.  The following poker tips are designed to correct - and in some cases - prevent this from happening.  Please read over them carefully to make the most of your poker playing online.

Fold more hands than not

If you strictly follow a tried and true strategy, you will fold nearly 70% of your starting hands.  Beginning players far too often play decent or semi-decent hands that end up getting beat during the final round.  But by folding more hands than not, you are helping to lower the luck factor.

Play at tables with less skilled gamblers

Short of being overconfident, smart poker players should always play at tables where they feel they might have an advantage over other players.  Remember, most other smart players will be doing the same, so you are better off than not considering this tip at all.  The key is to be aware of what your wager limits are.  If you are struggling at a particular table for an extended period of time, you should consider moving down to a table with a smaller wager limit.

Pay close attention to your opponents moves

If you are in for the long haul, it is a good idea to watch your opponents for clues on how they play their hands.  After folding, which you should be doing frequently anyway, take note of when your opponents bet - and for how much - during certain betting rounds.  Take note of their final hands and you will begin to see patterns form that will help you call their bluff and make better decisions regarding your own hand.

 Bet in a tactical manner

It is wise to know that just because your hand has great potential of becoming high ranking, does not necessarily mean that you should bet overly aggressive. Changing betting patterns might give other players cause in believing you may be bluffing, when in reality you are not. It is also important to consider what kinds of hands the other players at the table may have.  Calling and raising can be used to test another player's hand, perhaps shedding light on whether they themselves are bluffing or playing a strong hand.  In the big picture, getting to know another player's betting patterns, while implementing a tactical betting strategy of your own makes for strong wagering.

Take advantage of your seating position at the table

You should know that the dealer, or button position, is the most advantageous player position at the poker table....Take advantage of it.  Since you are the last one to act in each betting round, you can see betting patterns form in each round.  For instance, if much of the round has consisted of raises and re-raises, you may want to reconsider, especially if you have a somewhat weak hand.
