Online Casinos Setting Records
on the Size of Poker Jackpots
It seems these days that online
poker and casino jackpots are getting larger and larger.
Take for instance, Paradise Poker's first ever $1 million
tournament, which gave a freeroll to amateurs who came on
strong and gave the pros a run for their money. One such
amateur was Lee Biddulph, who won the tournament and pocketed
$1 million in cash. Biddulph is a 28 year-old chef from
England, who was shocked just as much as the crowd was when
the Turn revealed an 8, turning Biddulph's winning hand into a
Flush that was higher than his opponents Flush.
Mike Darweesh, who hails from
Arizona, held a Flush as well, but was beat out by Biddulph's
Ace. The tension was enormous in the final game between
the skillful players, which kept the large audience on the
edge of their seats every moment of the game. Biddulph
commented that his own teeth were shaking, and that he went
into a state of shock after the Turn.
Biddulph got into the
tournament by playing in an online tournament with nearly
4,000 other gamblers. These satellite tournaments are a
common practice held by online casinos, which Paradise Poker
proudly held on its own. Considering this was primarily
an online tournament to begin with, the $1 million jackpot
makes it the largest ever for any online poker tournament - or
any of the other casino game specific tournaments held at
online casinos.
One revealing component of the
tournament was that eight out of the nine players at the final
table were all from the U.S., which to many online casinos -
and Paradise Poker especially - should be telling to how the
U.S. government could regard online gambling in the near
future. It has gotten too huge to stop, and is largely
due to U.S. players. Encouraged, Paradise Poker is
already setting up another $1 million tournament that will
make yet another millionaire.
