Malta Gaming Authority Gets
Top Honors For Online Regulation
Business Britain, a widely
published and highly recognized magazine, has bestowed an
award on the Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LGA) of Malta for
giving superior service to the online gaming and casinos
industry. After receiving a full, in-depth investigation
of their place in regulating casinos that operate online, as
well as the gaming industry in general, the LGA was chosen for
the award, which it graciously accepted.
Handed out at the Malta High
Commission in London, the LGA's Legal Director, Dr. Anthony
Axisa, acknowledged the award and commented that the LGA was
very pleased to have lived up to the standards that have been
expected of it. Just as online casinos must live up to
the standards the LGA enforces, the Maltese gaming authorities
must also answer to an even higher authority, namely the
British governmental regulators.
For those who do not remember,
Malta was the very first member of the European Union to begin
regulating online casinos and internet gaming sites, which
makes the LGA's achievement even more noteworthy. Having
no other organizations to model themselves after, the LGA was
essentially left to their own devices in regulating an
industry that was - at the time - much more volatile and
capable of getting out of control.
Now that regulations on casinos
online are even stricter these days, the LGA of Malta should
feel an even greater responsibility to the industry. Not
only do they have a reputation and award to keep living up to
- They also have new regulations and an even larger field of
casinos and gaming operators seeking regulation in European
territory.
